Some of the notable additions to the team are:
- Wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who was acquired from the Houston Texans in a trade. Cooks is a speedy and versatile receiver who can stretch the field and create big plays. He has four 1,000-yard seasons in his career and has played with some of the best quarterbacks in the league, such as Drew Brees, Tom Brady, and Deshaun Watson.
- Cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who was signed as a free agent after being released by the New England Patriots. Gilmore is a former Defensive Player of the Year and a four-time Pro Bowler who can lock down any receiver in the league. He is expected to be the leader of the Cowboys secondary and mentor the young cornerbacks on the roster.
- Defensive tackle Mazi Smith, who was drafted in the second round out of Michigan. Smith is a powerful and athletic interior lineman who can disrupt the run and pressure the quarterback. He has drawn comparisons to Aaron Donald and Fletcher Cox, and he is expected to be a key contributor on the Cowboys defensive line.
- Tight end Luke Schoonmaker, who was also drafted in the second round out of Michigan. Schoonmaker is a well-rounded tight end who can block, catch, and run after the catch. He has good size, speed, and hands, and he can create mismatches in the middle of the field. He is expected to compete with Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz for snaps at tight end.
